How to Install an Adjustable Dog Ramp to Your Bed

Lots of dog owners enjoy cuddling up to their dogs at night, but some beds are too high for their pups to reach. Alternatively, a dog may have trouble getting onto the bed because he’s sick or injured. Installing a dog ramp is a simple and efficient way to ensure your dog has no issue climbing in and out of bed at night.

Step 1:

Measure the height of your bed. Dog ramps are adjustable, so you’ll want to know your bed’s height before attempting to hook up the ramp. Afterward, call someone into the room to help you because this job takes two people.

Step 2:

Lift up the platform end of the ramp. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and lift with your legs. Do not lift with your back. Depending on the size of your dog, this ramp could be quite heavy. If it’s too heavy, ask someone for help before attempting to hook it up.

Step 3:

Locate the brace. Underneath the platform end of the ramp is a brace, which slides down into the ramp’s track, locking it in place.

Step 4:

Secure the brace into the track. You want the height of the ramp to match the height of your bed, before locking it into place. Most beds are around 24 inches, so the ramp should be this tall at the platform end. Ask your buddy to measure the height of the ramp, as you lift and lower the brace into place.

Step 5:

Most adjustable pet ramps are measured in degrees, ensuring the ramp is adjusted correctly for specific dog types. Ensure you adjust the ramp’s degrees to the correct incline for your dog. A steep incline is need for small dogs that have difficulty getting in bed. This incline only works for small dogs in good health. Dogs that are elderly or disabled will need an easier incline, such as 18-degrees. Finally, most healthy dogs will have no problems getting in and out of bed using a 22-degree incline. If you do lock-in the brace at the wrong height or incline, you simply have to hit the release to try it again.

Step 6:

Once you’ve locked the ramp in place, you can set it down. Push or carry it over to the side of the bed. Ensure it’s level with the bed. You will have to adjust until it lines up perfectly.
